Lovage in the kitchen
Lovage has a very interesting and rather intense taste, initially sweet, then a little sharper and finally pleasantly bitter. As we have already mentioned, the famous spice "Maggi", as well as the stock in cubes which is so popular in cooking, owes its unique flavour to the aromatic extract of lovage. However, this does not mean that we have to limit ourselves to using this aromatic spice only in processed form. Well-dried or fresh lovage will enrich the taste of almost any dish. It is a fantastic addition to soups, e.g. the Sunday broth will acquire a unique aroma if we add a bit of lovage leaves to it at the end of cooking. However, remember to use moderation, because if you overdo the amount of this addition, it can dominate the dish.
Lovage:
- Lovage is known for its diuretic and supportive effects in urinary tract diseases.
- Thanks to its coumarin content, lovage has an anticoagulant effect. In addition, it contains phytosterols, which help the body to fight and prevent coronary artery disease.
- Due to its relatively high content of essential oils, it improves the blood supply to the genitals, which in turn contributes to better sexual intercourse.
- Lovage, like many other spices, is our ally in dealing with flatulence, indigestion and other digestive complaints.
